Case Study 3: Change Management Support for Staff

Background

A ‘not-for-profit’ organisation commissioned us at short notice to work on a 1:1 basis with each member of its staff to support them in preparation for a TUPE* exercise.  The organisation wished to provide the opportunity for all interested staff to access independent career advice, support in what lay ahead, and assistance to help each of them to make the right choices for their own personal situations.  Thirty members of staff took up the opportunity.

What we did

We organised 1:1 confidential sessions with each member of staff, supplemented by telephone and e-mail support.  Each member of staff used the opportunity in different ways and we employed a coaching approach to help them think through their aspirations, goals and options.  We advised on preparation of job descriptions and CVs and provided a range of relevant resources according to needs.  In addition, we prepared staff for selection interviews using role-play.

How we helped

All staff who wished to transfer into the new organisation achieved their objectives. Some moved on to other businesses and some moved into full-time education prior to embarking on new careers.

Feedback from those involved indicated that after their sessions with us they felt better prepared, personally and professionally, and had moved from a coping state into managing their own transitions into new roles or new careers in a more positive and proactive way.
